Made of Matter (2006) presents a frontal portrait emerging from a warm, unpainted ground through loose, gestural strokes of deep teal, black, and grey. The figure's face is rendered with an economy of mark; dark, contemplative eyes, a softly defined nose and mouth; while the surrounding form breaks apart into fragmented planes of color and exposed canvas. White highlights carve light across the forehead and jaw, lending the face a sculptural, almost mineral quality. The title suggests a meditation on materiality and physical existence: the figure is not fully formed but rather in the process of becoming, assembled from pigment and surface as much as from flesh. The unresolved edges and layered erasures reinforce this sense of matter in flux. Signed 'Axioma '06' in the lower right.
